Performing Arts Mission is an initiative of the Plymouth and Devonport Methodist Circuit. Anne Middleton was employed in January 2020 to bring churches together for creative mission and community. Working with the circuit, PAM resources creative worship and encourages churches to think outside ‘the box’. PAM seeks to break down barriers and create community, recognising the importance of the arts to reflect and express spirituality and humanity. Connecting with art provides a moment of ‘wonder’ – a connection with something beyond our everyday lives – one might say, a Divine connection. The arts provide a means of connection and understanding – to help remove the us and them and begin to work together with our community…

Productions are an important part of PAM. In 2023, Anne Middleton wrote a play to reflect on church and community and to literally break down the walls of church and give people a glimpse inside at the people. Bloomin’ Church! took place at the Devonport Playhouse with a fabulous professional cast (GALLERY). Since then, PAM has initiated new projects to provide safe spaces for a shared experience of ‘art’ followed by a conversation. To find out more about these projects, click HERE. The next PAM production is a Nativity Panto – Babe in the Manger. This is promising to be a wonderful production – presenting the beautiful nativity story within the fabulous panto genre. More information on this will be available soon.
